My son, (Child) hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: Proverbs 1:8
For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck. Proverbs 1:9
Within the verses above we see the call to the establishment of the importance of the family structure. Observe, the two pillars wherein the child ought to reside between; the father and the mother, as both pillars themselves abide under the covering of Heaven.
The instruction from the father speaks of reproof, or restraint. Observe, these two attributes are before the law which is placed in the care of the mother. The law here speaks of a precept of a statue, one’s behavior and actions.
In other words, the believer as a child of God, must first hear which is the act of accepting to be willing to be reproved. Therein comes the condition wherein one is willing to accept certain limitation for the good. Through this, the statue of integrity is learned to walk in, which the verse spoke of as the law. That is to say, correction before better living.
To those that hears instructions, they must be willing to be corrected. Where correction is received, integrity is not forsaken.
Verse two gives the overview and the expectation of those that have received instruction and are now walking in integrity. To this we read; For they (The impact of the father and mother) shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.
The ornament here speaks of that which is gracefully cherished and is not hidden, but proudly displayed. Such should be the believer’s integral behavior having received instructions for life and living. For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head. That is to say, you as a believer, your character ought to be as an ornament that is cherished for all to see. The phrase “unto thy head” speaks of principle. So shall be your character, graceful and firstly seen.
Next, we read, “and chains about thy neck.” The neck speaks of the throat, that is to say a rumination, or a deeper consideration. As you walk in integrity, all that you do must be of a deep consideration. Thinking before you act. Rather than acting without thinking before you regret.
