Further insight is found in the 16 chapter of John. Here, Christ Himself is teaching on the work of the Holy Spirit in relation to the Godhead.
Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth:
All things we learn as Christians, we learn through the Holy Spirit, a Christian who doesn’t take hold of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, is likely to face a lot of problems or struggles in their life. The guide here speaks of an adult and a child, as a child is led, so should be the believer and the Holy Spirit.
for he shall not speak of Himself;
This is the foundation to understand the teaching we received in the Word. It will never contradict itself. If we lack understanding, let it be an opportunity to seek and ask, but the Holy Spirit will not contradict Christ.
but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak:
To hear is to listen, and to listen is to be in tuned. This speaks of the unity in the Godhead.
and He will show you things to come.
The growth of the believer is predicated on the teaching of the Holy Spirit. Without the Holy Spirit being active in the believer’s life, there will be the lack of growth.
He shall glorify Me:
This is important, the glorification is not speaking merely of praise. Instead, it speaks of the Deity of Christ. The reason certain Christians do not understand the Deity of Christ is because the Holy Spirit is not active in their lives. Therefore, they cannot see the things they ought to know.
for He shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you.
Concerning this, Pulpit wrote; This is the high function of the Spirit in inspiration—to take of that which belongs to the Son of God, and so to quicken the spiritual faculty of men that they can, and do understand it. "The Spirit searches all things, even the depths of Deity," and reveals them to those who receive the Holy Ghost.
This we add, one cannot give the latitude to the Holy Spirit to work in their life unless they understand the Cross of Christ and the benefits thereof.
In closing, the Lord ones again summarized it all by saying.
All things that the Father has are Mine: therefore, said I, that He (the Holy Spirit) shall take of mine, and shall show it unto you.
